The driving force behind the Haven, Tammy was raised in Mandeville and attended Belair School until her teens when she moved to the UK.
After completing her education, Tammy trained as a veterinary technician and pursued her passion for horses working as a groom for a leading polo stables.
Tammy jumped at the opportunity to return to Jamaica in 2001 when she took up a position working with horses. The number of strays wandering the streets and the ignorance with which many animals were treated dismayed her and, little by little, Tammy began to try and make a difference. This culminated with her drawing together friends and professionals to found the Animal Haven in 2009.
Jamaica's Ambassador for World Animal Day, and a member of the Branson Centre for Entrepreneurship, Tammy lives near Montego Bay with her daughter Megan.
Father of four, Amigo is the Haven's dog whispering Mr. Fixit.
There's nothing he won't turn his hand to, be it bathing and medicating dogs, repairing fence lines, exercising puppies or building shelters.
"Amigo has this gentle, calming influence on the dogs; he is wonderful with all the animals. He has a real dog whisperer way about him," says Tammy.
Not content with helping out with the day-to-day running of the Haven six days a week, Amigo goes home each night to his own houseful of dogs - seven at the last count!
